We were able to create this striking urban home by converting an early 20th Century livery stable into a private residence. The stable, which was built to serve an adjacent former fire station, was hemmed into a dense collection of buildings located in Pittsburgh’s historic South Side neighborhood. In order to provide natural light into the deepest areas of the home, skylights and an open stairway, leading to a roof terrace, was used. By adding modern conveniences while celebrating the existing 100+ year old materials, we were able to create a sense of luxury without compromising the historic and utilitarian nature of the original structure.
