The corner of 8th Avenue and Amity Street is the epicenter of Homestead’s commercial district and the gateway to the Waterfront, a large open-air shopping mall sitting on land once occupied by U.S. Steel’s Homestead Steel Works plant, which closed in 1986.
Our client, a developer, requested that we design a mixed-use building which would include commercial spaces and residential units. In response, we designed a five-floor building that includes # street-level commercial spaces and # two- and three-bedroom
apartments. Each luxury apartment offers a terrace with views of the churches and park on the hillside. The upper floors of the building feature two luxury penthouse units, a fitness center, and a rooftop deck. The design was required to meet the Homestead
Historic District Design Guidelines and complement the neighborhood’s 19th and 20th century buildings.
