Adaptive reuse of the historic 7,400 square foot A.M. Byers Wrought Iron Pipe Company headquarters to accommodate the Traveler’s Rest Hotel, an independent hotel located along the Great Allegheny Passage in Pittsburgh’s South Side. In the design of this unique hotel, featuring bedrooms with detached private baths and common spaces, we highlighted the building’s wood paneling, doors and ceiling while making the building accessible. We also assisted the owners in a year-long process to receive approvals from the Allegheny County Health Department and a building permit appeal process which identified cost-saving solutions to bring this building from 1886 up to today’s life-safety standards.
